BIOGRAPHY

Singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer born in Barcelona in 1991, grew in a family of musicians.

 

He obtained an intermediate degree in flute and lyrical singing at the Sabadell Municipal Conservatory, where she also learned piano and percussion.

 

By family tradition, for many years she has been part of the world of Catalan choral singing. This experience provides her with a very rich training as a singer. At just nine years old, she has the opportunity to sing on the scenic choirs of the opera of the Gran Teatre del Liceu. She also premiered at the age of twelve as a soloist in a children’s opera at the Teatre Lliure of Barcelona.

 

At the age of 19, she began the high degree in classical flute at the Liceu Conservatory. After completing two courses, she decided to leave training to focus her career on jazz and modern music. During this period she begins to compose systematically.

 

Since 2012, she has been the soprano voice of the Quartet Mèlt, a quartet of a cappella voices with which she has toured throughout Catalonia and Europe. She has released two albums with this group: Maletes and Xarrampim!. They are best known for winning the third edition of TV3's Oh Happy Day in 2015.

 

In 2017 she obtained a high degree in jazz singing at the Liceu Conservatory. Upon completion of her studies, she was awarded the extraordinary prize of the Jazz Department.

 

On April 13, 2018 she released her first album as a composer entitled Cançons d'amor i dimonis (Self-published), produced by Vic Moliner and Panxii Badii, with which she toured throughout Catalonia and made her official presentation at the Voll-Damm Barcelona International Jazz Festival.

 

This very same year she takes part in another musical project and becomes the voice of pianist and composer Clara Peya, with who she records the album Estómac (Satélite K).

 

During her stay at the Conservatory, she formed a duet with the Mallorcan guitarist Sebastià Gris, with whom she won the first jazz prize at the Juventudes Musicales de España competition in 2018. In the autumn of 2019 they won the first prize at the  Suns Europe international competition of music in minority languages held in Udine, Italy. That same year, they released a two-track EP entitled Venim a aquest món. Finally, in January 2020, they released their first album together entitled A BOY & A GIRL (Segell Microscopi) produced by David Soler, a project that toures around Spain and Europe.

In addition, at this time, Magalí has ​​another duet project with double bass player Manel Fortià, who then resided in New York, with who they fuse free jazz and traditional music. They publish their first work in November 2020 entitled Fang i núvols (Segell Microscopi).

 

In 2019 she received a series of acknowledgements: she was nominated for the Premis Alícia of the Catalan Academy of Music as an emerging talent, as well as being a revelation artist at the Premis ARC. Also the poem Desplegar-se by Sònia Moya (from the album Fang i núvols) is among the 5 best musical poems of the year, with a special mention by Lluis Llach, in the Terra i Cultura competition.

 

In 2020, she also released her first two singles: Cronos and Beure de tu (Beber de ti), the first of which was produced entirely during lockdown where she alongside Sebastià Gris produced the music and taught herself to make the video. She also voiced Estrella Damm's famous summer spot "Commitment."

 

In 2021 she started the making of her second solo album while on tour with her other projects. She performed at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid with the Orchestra of Radio Televisión Española singing Gerschwin and Cole Porter; she also sang the national anthem of Catalonia at the investment ceremony of the 132nd Catalan president and she did so in a way never seen before. And finally she also collaborated with the Balkan Paradise Orchestra on the remix of Pingu’s theme.

 

In April 2022, she releases her second album as a singer-songwriter entitled ESPONJA, produced by Pau Brugada and herself with the special collaborations of Salvador Sobral and Las Migas. She debutes it at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid, the Palau de la Música of Barcelona and at the Strenes Festival at the Girona Auditorium, among other places.

In May 2023, he releases Re-Tornar, the second work with Manel Fortià. This project is also selected at Womex '23, EXIB '23 and nominated for the european awards UPBEAT.

 

During the years 2023 and 2024, he is part of the musical band of Salvdor Sobral's TIMBRE tour.

 

In addition to performing, Magalí has ​​taught 5 years of modern singing/jazz, combo and improvisation lessons at the upper level of the Taller de Músics and is currently doing so at the Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona.
